PASTEF party congress: Ousmane Sonko poised for re-election as leader

The PASTEF party is finalizing preparations for its upcoming congress with the official launch of candidate submissions for the party presidency.
The Party Regulation Authority (HARP) has announced that candidate dossiers may be submitted from 15 May 2026 at 00:00 until 20 May 2026 at 12:00.
The authority also confirmed that candidate declaration forms will be made available to aspirants seeking to lead the party.
This process marks a critical milestone in organizing the Pastef congress, anticipated as a pivotal moment in strengthening the ruling party’s structure and unity.
However, the internal election outcome appears all but certain, as Ousmane Sonko, the party’s central figure and historical leader, is expected to be reaffirmed as its head following the congress.
This timeline coincides with Pastef’s efforts to bolster its internal organization after assuming power and prepare for the next phases of its political agenda.
