Chad prosecutor detains borcou provincial council president in N’Djamena

The president of the Borkou Provincial Council, Ahmat Bedei Toullomi, was taken into custody Thursday late afternoon in N’Djamena and transferred to the General Coordination of the Judicial Police, local security sources confirmed.

The arrest occurred inside the premises of the La Résidence hotel, just before 5 p.m., following a legal complaint filed for defamation and public insults.

According to documents reviewed, the complaint was lodged by Goudje Gueillet Hemchi and Kodou Omari, who accuse Ahmat Bedei Toullomi of making multiple damaging claims on social media. He had publicly alleged their involvement in a cocaine trafficking operation in Chad.

The complainants firmly deny these accusations, calling them « completely false, baseless, and deceitful, » insisting that such statements have severely damaged their honor and reputation.

A warrant for his appearance was issued on August 4, 2026, by the prosecutor’s office near the N’Djamena Court of Major Jurisdiction, requiring him to respond to the allegations against him.

Local sources indicate that prior to his arrest, Ahmat Bedei Toullomi had been summoned multiple times without responding. After over ten days of unanswered summons, law enforcement proceeded with his detention to ensure his presence for questioning.

Minutes after his arrest, a statement was posted at 5:10 p.m. on his Facebook page: « Either the Marshal stands with us all, or the traffickers are stronger than the law. I have been kidnapped ».

At this stage, the detention is part of an ongoing judicial procedure and does not imply guilt.
