Diomaye’s strong message: what was tolerated in Senegal will no longer be

During the launch of his new political party, KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye delivered a powerful admonition widely interpreted as a direct message to his former Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko. He declared unequivocally: « Fii, saa fitnë dootufi nanee ñeex », a Wolof phrase translating to: “Here, from now on, what was tolerated will no longer be.”

In his address, the founder of KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains underscored Senegal’s enduring reputation as a nation committed to stability and peace. This public statement emerges amidst a period of escalating friction between the two prominent figures of the executive branch, coinciding with a significant realignment within the presidential majority and the formal establishment of the new political entity.

This intervention follows months of overt disagreements between the head of state and his former government chief. Their respective national addresses have revealed distinct differences in tone, culminating in a definitive split between the presidential coalition and the Pastef party.

Meanwhile, Ousmane Sonko, who leads Pastef, has been actively engaged with his associates in a membership card drive, an initiative that commenced several days prior.
