This past Saturday, July 25th, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Sénégal officially unveiled his new political party, named «Kiiraay: les patriotes républicains». The launch event, held in Dakar, marked a significant moment for the nation’s political landscape, signaling a renewed focus on national unity and foundational principles.

The newly formed movement, «Kiiraay», is dedicated to the robust defense of the Sénégalese Republic, its core institutions, and the cherished ancestral values passed down through generations. Its overarching mission is to rekindle optimism across all segments of society, offering a fresh vision for the future. President Faye underscored the critical importance of placing the nation above any partisan divisions or personal ambitions, articulating a powerful message: “We may be adversaries one day, but we remain brothers every day.”

The King Fahd Palace served as the backdrop for this pivotal afternoon, where President Faye, stepping into the role of a leading political figure, was met with thunderous applause from an overwhelming crowd of dedicated militants and enthusiastic sympathizers. So vast was the turnout that many attendees were compelled to follow the address by the leader of the “Diomaye Président” coalition from a large tent erected on the hotel’s forecourt.

During his address, the Sénégalese President also seized the opportunity to deliver pointed remarks to his political opponents, though without naming them directly. He declared with conviction that “from this point forward, no warmonger will be able to disrupt the tranquility of the Sénégalese people or their commitment to serving the Republic.” These statements, according to several party members present, were perceived as a clear message directed towards his former ally and current National Assembly President, Ousmane Sonko.
