Morocco Mauritania military delegation visit highlights strategic partnership

During a significant diplomatic and military engagement, General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, concluded a productive visit to Nouakchott. The delegation was received by Mauritania’s President, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani, in an official ceremony that underscored the deepening ties between the two nations.

Accompanied by Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, General Berrid engaged in discussions that highlighted the robust defense collaboration between Rabat and Nouakchott. Following the presidential meeting, the Moroccan delegation proceeded to the Ministry of Defense, where Minister Hanana Ould Sidi presented General Berrid with the National Order of Merit (Commander grade) on behalf of Mauritania’s President—a gesture symbolizing recognition of Morocco’s contributions to regional security.

Later in the day, General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Defense Staff co-chaired the sixth session of the Joint Military Commission. The meeting provided an opportunity to review progress in defense cooperation, with both sides lauding recent achievements as a testament to the strength of their strategic alliance. Officials emphasized that the partnership serves as a benchmark for bilateral military collaboration in the region.
