Morocco Mauritania military ties strengthened during high-level visit

Morocco’s high-ranking military delegation, led by General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, concluded a productive two-day working visit to Mauritania on Tuesday.

General Berrid was welcomed at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani. The meeting took place in the presence of Ambassador Hamid Chabar, Morocco’s envoy to Mauritania, as confirmed by an official statement from the Royal Armed Forces General Staff.

The same day, General Berrid visited the Mauritanian Ministry of Defense for a productive exchange with Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi. During the meeting, the Mauritanian President honored the Moroccan military leader by awarding him the Commander Grade of the National Order of Merit in recognition of his contributions to bilateral defense cooperation.

Later in the day, General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff co-chaired the sixth session of the Mixed Military Commission. Discussions centered on reviewing the progress of joint military initiatives and deepening strategic collaboration between the two nations.

Both delegations expressed strong satisfaction with the tangible outcomes of their military partnership, which continues to set a benchmark for regional defense cooperation. Officials highlighted the seamless coordination and concrete results achieved through this long-standing alliance.
