Morocco strengthens African integration at un economic commission meeting

The future of Morocco-United Nations Economic Commission for Africa collaboration took center stage during a high-level meeting in Addis Ababa, where Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, engaged with Claver Gatete, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa.

Advancing African economic integration through strategic partnerships

During the discussions, both leaders explored ways to deepen bilateral cooperation while emphasizing Morocco’s long-standing commitment to continental unity and sustainable development. The meeting highlighted the Kingdom’s proactive role in strengthening South-South cooperation and fostering economic resilience across the African continent.

Claver Gatete commended Morocco’s pivotal role in organizing the 58th session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, held in Tangier from March 28 to April 3. He also acknowledged the Kingdom’s consistent support for the Economic Commission for Africa’s initiatives, describing this partnership as a cornerstone of regional progress.

Morocco’s vocational training model praised as an African benchmark

The UN official highlighted Morocco’s innovative approach to technical and vocational education, which integrates cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence with industrial development needs. This integrated model, he noted, sets a benchmark for other African nations grappling with economic transformation and workforce modernization.

Gatete urged wider adoption of this system, stressing its potential to align skills development with technological advancements and industrialization goals. He encouraged African countries to draw inspiration from Morocco’s success stories to accelerate their own developmental journeys.

A legacy of African partnership

Since joining the Economic Commission for Africa in 1958, Morocco has been an active participant in its programs, contributing to both continental integration and economic growth initiatives. The Kingdom’s involvement reflects its unwavering dedication to fostering unity and shared prosperity across Africa.
