Sonko’s election follows his abrupt removal from the Prime Minister’s office, a decision announced by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The move underscores shifting political dynamics within Senegal’s leadership.
In a parallel development, Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô has been appointed Prime Minister, taking over from Sonko. Lô previously served as the Minister overseeing the National Transformation Program for Senegal 2050 and as Secretary-General of the government.
