Senegalese political crisis within pastef as revealed by dr abdourahmane diouf

Government Minister Unveils Pastef’s Internal Struggles

In a candid interview on Radio Sénégal Internationale, Dr Abdourahmane Diouf, the Minister of Energy and Petroleum and a founding member of the KIIRAAY party, exposed the deep divisions plaguing the Pastef movement. His remarks shed light on the escalating tensions between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and the party’s leader, Ousmane Sonko, while placing full responsibility on Pastef for the unfolding crisis.

The minister did not mince words when addressing the fractures within the coalition. He accused Pastef of betraying the president’s trust by deliberately undermining his leadership. According to Dr Diouf, President Faye had consistently upheld his commitments, only to face disloyalty from his own party members. “The president has remained unwavering in his dedication to fulfilling the promises made to the people,” he stated. “It is Pastef and its leadership that have chosen to isolate and betray him, rendering his mandate ungovernable.

Dr Diouf also addressed the resignations of former government colleagues, emphasizing that they had voluntarily stepped down rather than being forced out. He argued that their departure had weakened the president’s parliamentary majority, complicating the implementation of his policies and vision for Sénégal.

A Call for Unity and a Second Term

The energy minister extended his support for President Faye’s bid for re-election, citing the need for continuity in governance. His stance reportedly motivated the creation of his own political party, KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains, as a platform to promote stability and uphold the president’s agenda. However, he remained critical of Pastef’s internal contradictions, accusing its officials of failing to align with their leader while publicly lecturing others on morality.

Pastef’s Future Hangs in the Balance

The revelations from Dr Diouf underscore the growing instability within Pastef, a movement that once united opposition forces under a shared vision. As the political landscape in Sénégal continues to evolve, the fractures within the party raise questions about its ability to maintain cohesion and deliver on its promises to the Senegalese people.
