Recently, WAPCO (Niger), in partnership with the local livestock bureau, successfully concluded a comprehensive vaccination and deworming campaign for cattle in the Zinder region. This vital initiative reached seven pastoralist encampments, including N’Guel Eléfi and Tesker, delivering essential services to over 10,000 animals. This achievement marks the successful completion of the first phase of WAPCO (Niger)’s “Healthy Communities” public interest activities, which have now extended to all areas traversed by the pipeline.
To further enhance the health management capabilities of local populations, WAPCO (Niger) has proactively integrated its own medical resources. Utilizing on-site medical personnel and fundamental medicines, the company launched two pilot free community medical consultation projects near pumping stations 5 and 6 in early 2025, which were met with enthusiastic approval from residents. Following the success of these pilot programs, a broader needs assessment was conducted, officially initiating the first phase of the “Healthy Communities” program in August 2025. To date, WAPCO (Niger) has organized a total of seven free community medical outreach events, providing healthcare services to 1,249 local residents, and has generously donated a tricycle ambulance to a local community health center.
During the implementation of these free consultations, the company’s team observed that livestock serves as a crucial source of income and livelihood for local families, and that herders had an urgent need for animal care. In direct response to these community concerns, WAPCO (Niger) expanded the scope of its “Healthy Communities” activities. Collaborating with local livestock authorities and other relevant entities, WAPCO (Niger) has provided vaccination and deworming services to more than 20,000 animals across three major pastoralist gathering points along the pipeline, thereby assisting herders in safeguarding their essential productive assets.

As a responsible corporate entity, WAPCO (Niger) has consistently upheld a philosophy of cooperation built on mutual benefit and shared development since its establishment. While diligently ensuring the safe and stable operation of the pipeline, the company places significant emphasis on fulfilling its social responsibilities. WAPCO (Niger) continuously promotes the Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP), undertakes public welfare donations, and provides aid to local communities. Through these efforts, it actively contributes to improving local livelihoods and fostering social development, thereby enhancing the population’s sense of well-being and cultivating an external environment conducive to secure pipeline operations.
Looking ahead, WAPCO (Niger) is committed to deepening its assessments of community needs to precisely address the expectations of residents living near the pipeline. The company will consistently broaden the scope of its public interest activities, ensuring that an increasing number of residents can share in the benefits of development. While guaranteeing the safe and efficient functioning of this vital energy artery, WAPCO (Niger) will continue to work hand-in-hand with the community, implementing concrete measures to support livelihood improvement and promote mutual growth and shared development between WAPCO (Niger) and the local population.
