Following a working visit on June 2, 2026, to Niamey by Beninese President Romuald Wadagni, officials from both nations announced the establishment of an expert committee tasked with evaluating the conditions for reopening their shared border.

The decision was formalized in a joint statement issued after high-level talks between Romuald Wadagni and Nigerien counterpart Abdourahamane Tiani. The committee has been granted a 15-day window to assess existing barriers and recommend solutions to facilitate the border’s reopening.
