François Silibi officially takes his seat in Benin’s National Assembly

François Silibi has been formally sworn in as a deputy in Benin’s National Assembly, marking the beginning of his parliamentary mandate. The ceremony took place immediately following the plenary session at the Governor’s Palace in Porto-Novo today.

From substitute to deputy: Silibi’s parliamentary debut

Born in 1982, François Silibi brings an academic background to his new role, having served as an English professor before entering politics. Hailing from Ifangni—just like his predecessor Louis Vlavonou—Silibi will now represent this constituency in the 10th legislature of Benin’s parliament.

Silibi’s induction comes following Louis Vlavonou’s transition to the Senate, where he assumed his position as an ex-officio member due to his prior role as President of the National Assembly. This vacancy created an opportunity for Silibi to step forward as the elected replacement, fulfilling the remaining term of office until the legislature concludes in February 2033.
