Morocco and uk seek to double trade through 2030 world cup projects

The Kingdom of Morocco and the United Kingdom have set an ambitious goal to double bilateral trade and accelerate investment flows by harnessing the transformative potential of major infrastructure projects linked to the 2030 FIFA World Cup. This shared vision was outlined during a high-level meeting in Rabat, where Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour and British Minister of State for International Trade Chris Bryant convened a delegation of government officials and private sector representatives from the UK.

Speaking at the Morocco-UK Business Forum, Bryant underscored the strategic importance of doubling trade volumes and deepening economic ties between the two nations. He highlighted how the 2030 World Cup represents more than a sporting event—it’s a catalyst for infrastructure modernization, economic revitalization, and long-term legacy building for future generations. The minister emphasized the UK’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s growth trajectory through enhanced collaboration in trade and investment.

Mezzour echoed these sentiments, describing the 2030 World Cup as a pivotal driver for national development. Beyond upgrading stadiums and transport networks in host cities, he noted that the tournament’s ripple effects will extend nationwide, catalyzing improvements in healthcare, public services, and urban connectivity. Over the next eight years, Morocco is rolling out a comprehensive national transformation program designed to position the country as a key player in global value chains.

The Moroccan government is actively inviting UK businesses to participate in its public procurement initiatives and large-scale transformation projects. Mezzour called for partnerships that go beyond technology transfer, advocating for collaborative ventures rooted in investment, innovation, and competitiveness. By integrating British expertise with local resources, both countries aim to create sustainable economic growth and strengthen their positions in international markets.

The Morocco-UK Business Forum, held in Rabat and Casablanca on June 2 and 3, brought together nearly 50 UK-based companies specializing in infrastructure, transportation, security, engineering, design, and professional services. These sectors are expected to play a crucial role in delivering the infrastructure and innovation needed to support the 2030 World Cup and Morocco’s broader economic ambitions.
