Ousmane Sonko rallies Pastef supporters in Bargny for membership drive

This Saturday marked the launch of a nationwide campaign by Ousmane Sonko, leader of the Pastef party, who set out on a tour spanning Bargny, Sébikotane, Khombole, and Bambey. Departing from Keur Gorgui, Sonko’s mission was clear: energize activists and accelerate the sale of party membership cards—a critical step in strengthening Pastef’s grassroots presence ahead of upcoming elections.

The first stop, Bargny, saw an overwhelming turnout as crowds lined the streets to welcome their leader. Addressing the gathered militants, Sonko emphasized that the membership drive was not just about numbers—it was a strategic move to fortify the party’s foundation. « This campaign is our lifeline for the elections ahead, » he declared, urging local leaders to double down on their efforts.

Reflecting on the community’s struggles under the previous administration, Sonko paid tribute to the resilience of Bargny’s residents. « I haven’t forgotten what you endured under Macky Sall’s regime—your sacrifices will not be in vain, » he affirmed, drawing applause from the crowd.

With 80% of the membership target already achieved, Sonko urged supporters to push forward, warning against distractions. « The final 20% is within reach, and every card sold brings us closer to victory, » he concluded, leaving the crowd energized for the road ahead.
