Senegal constitutional court blocks reform law as sonko urges unity

The Speaker of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has acknowledged the Constitutional Council’s ruling that declares the recently passed constitutional reform law unconstitutional. In a public statement, the leader of the Pastef party accepted the decision of the ‘Seven Wise Men,’ emphasizing that it is binding on all branches of government.

« Beyond the debates sparked by the reasoning behind this decision, one thing remains clear: this ruling applies to everyone. Acknowledged, » Sonko wrote in a statement released on Thursday.
