Sonko mourns passing of revered Senegalese religious leader

Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the esteemed Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, who died on July 9, 2026.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Sonko honored the late religious figure’s legacy and extended his sympathies to the grieving family, the Mouride community’s Grand Khalife, and the entire Senegalese population.

« I was deeply moved and saddened to learn of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké,» Sonko wrote. « His departure is a profound loss for Guinguinéo and the nation as a whole.»

The Assembly President also reflected on his personal encounters with the late Khalife during visits to Guinguinéo. He recalled the warm hospitality and genuine kindness that Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké consistently demonstrated toward visitors and locals alike.

« During my visits, I had the honor of meeting him on multiple occasions,» Sonko shared. « Each meeting left a lasting impression, marked by his unwavering warmth, generosity, and spiritual guidance.»

In this time of sorrow, Sonko offered his most sincere condolences to the bereaved family, the Mouride leadership, the Guinguinéo religious community, and all Senegalese people.

« May Allah, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into eternal paradise,» he concluded.
