Sonko mourns passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké in Senegal

Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, has conveyed his deepest condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the revered Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo. The respected religious leader died on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Sonko expressed profound sorrow over the loss of a spiritual figure who had left an indelible mark on many lives. His tribute highlighted the warmth and generosity Mbacké had consistently shown to visitors and dignitaries alike.

« I was deeply moved to learn of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, » Sonko wrote. « During my visits to Guinguinéo, I had the honor of meeting him on multiple occasions. Each time, he welcomed us with open arms, offering kindness and hospitality that touched our hearts. »

Extending his sincere sympathies, the National Assembly leader sent condolences to the bereaved family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire Senegalese community. He prayed for divine mercy on the late spiritual leader’s soul, asking that God grant him eternal peace in Paradise.
