N’Djamena’s mayor inspects Hilton site ahead of flood season
The Mayor of N’Djamena, Mr. Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, conducted an on-site inspection of the critical Hilton drainage facility today, May 28th, 2026. The visit was part of proactive flood prevention measures ahead of the upcoming rainy season.
During the inspection, Mr. Gadengar Roasna Rodrigue, Director of Urban Planning for N’Djamena’s central municipality, highlighted the strategic importance of the Hilton drainage site. He explained that this infrastructure plays a dual role in managing water flow: channeling rainwater toward the river during heavy precipitation and preventing river flooding from entering the city.
Current assessments indicate that while the overall structure remains intact, the floodgate mechanism that regulates river water inflow has sustained damage. Despite this, municipal authorities have already initiated preparatory actions to ensure readiness for the rains.
Following the inspection, Mayor Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye issued urgent directives to the Road Maintenance Department. He emphasized the immediate necessity of repairing the damaged floodgate to prevent potential flooding during the upcoming season.
