Mali armed forces regain ground against armed groups in key regions

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a significant shift in the conflict dynamics, asserting full control over regions previously contested by armed factions in the north, center, and south of the country.

According to an official statement, intensified military operations continued through Sunday in Anifif, situated in the northeastern part of Mali, roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The engagement followed the arrival of additional fighters and resources to the Front de Libération de l’Azawad (FLA), prompting a robust response from government forces.

The FAMA’s communiqué emphasized the resilience of its troops, stating: “Confronted with these renewed pressures, our units engaged with unwavering determination and tactical precision throughout the day, demonstrating both courage and discipline in every phase of combat.”

The statement reaffirmed the army’s confidence in its ability to safeguard national sovereignty, protect civilian populations, and decisively defeat hostile forces operating within Mali’s borders.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Front de Libération de l’Azawad, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had earlier claimed control over Anifif following the resumption of hostilities. He also dismissed reports of the death of the group’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, asserting that the commander remained actively involved in directing military operations across northern Mali.
