Ousmane Sonko issues stark warnings to Senegal's new Prime Minister

In a climate of rising political pressure, Senegal’s former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has taken a firm stance against his successor, Al Aminou Lo, criticizing recent statements and hinting at undisclosed insights into their relationship.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, Sonko did not mince his words regarding certain remarks made by Lo, delivering several veiled warnings to the new leader.

The former head of government urged the incoming Prime Minister to remain within his professional boundaries. “My advice to him is simple: stick to the numbers. He claims to be a technocrat—so let him focus solely on technical governance,” Sonko declared.

Political tensions escalate

Sonko went further, alleging that Lo contributed to the strained relations between the Pastef party and the Senegalese presidency. “We are well aware of the role he played in the conflicts between Pastef and the president. Until now, we have refrained from revealing all the details. He should tone down his rhetoric,” he cautioned.

The Pastef leader also scrutinized Lo’s conduct during the announcement of the new cabinet. “Yesterday, during the government’s unveiling, I heard him giving unsolicited advice. Perhaps he should start by following his own counsel,” he remarked.

Concluding with an unmistakable firmness, Sonko hinted at possessing undisclosed information. “We know everything. We’ve chosen to withhold certain facts—but do not provoke us,” he asserted.
